Get your kids involved with birding at a very young age – trust us, they’ll love it! We were “those parents” who had our babies in backpacks strapped to us as we explored. There seemed to be a calming effect on our twins when we escaped the house and ventured out into the fresh air. Apparently, walls close in on kids too, so a change of pace can be golden. As our children got older, they wanted their own sets of binoculars. If you decide to purchase binoculars for the kids, do take them with you to the store (your local bird store or camera store will no doubt have some) as getting ones properly formed to their small faces is important.
Speaking of your local bird store: do look it up and head on over. There you will find bird seed, guides, birdfeeders, games, birdbaths, you name it! Whenever we frequent our local bird store, we invariably come home with more than we intended. Keep your kids involved and we have a feeling that birding and exploring nature will turn into a lifelong passion for them as well!
